Brief Project Description

We are proud to be constructing the very first Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS) in the State of Georgia for PDK – Dekalb Peachtree Airport. The FAA-recommended system is an aircraft safety measure designed to protect the public and aircraft during landing procedures.

Astra is currently performing site improvements including the installation of storm drainage systems, relocation of sanitary sewer lines and construction of a 40-ft tall MSE retaining wall. The project requires the placement of 70,000 CY of fill material. The EMAS installation is projected to be completed this upcoming summer!

June Project Update, Since completing the sewer main line relocation at Dekalb Peachtree Airport (PDK), crews started laying the storm drainage outfall system, which includes the replacement of a 45-foot structure and over 800 ft of Class V RCP ranging from 24″ to 48″. This storm work will vastly improve overall airport drainage.

After storm drainage is completed, the construction of the MSE retaining walls will begin followed by the mass import of fill material for the extension of Runway 21L. Georgia’s 1st Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) is anticipated for completion summer 2018.
